2023 is our pilot year…

In response to Culture Richmond’s new 10-year framework Richmond Arts Service is developing a new Arts & Ideas Festival. The festival will be a pilot in 2023. The next Arts & Ideas Festival will be linked to Culture Richmond’s Cultural Reforesting Programme.

This year, the theme is Together & Change. This theme will be the curatorial thread that unites the programme. It explores how by coming together we can take a fresh look at our world, and through action imagine and create new futures. The theme is open and inclusive to explore aspects like heritage, identity, environment, social justice, racism, internationalism, placemaking and different generations.

Context & theme

The Festival is planned from 16 June to 2 July 2023.

The Festival overlaps with a number of national and international events, which could give rise to developing content. These include: Refugee Week, Pride Month, Dalloway Day, Summer Solstice, London Architecture Festival, 75th Anniversary of the Windrush, and Eid Al Adha 2023.

The festival programme is developed and co-presented with and through partners across the borough. This includes Richmond Arts Service’s own facilities at Orleans House Gallery, Richmond’s public libraries, as well as a wide range of local partners.

We want the festival to feel exciting, adventurous, thought-provoking, fun and inclusive. The programme will range from celebration to provocation, from quiet contemplation to boisterous rallying. The experience will be informative as well as emotional. What is important is that the theme ‘Together & Change’ shines through each event, inspires and galvanises new experiences.
